Dyslexia

DOES YOUR STUDENT EXHIBIT...

  • A fine, creative, mind?
  • Intuitive, multi-dimensional thinking?
  • Average or above-average intelligence?
  • Reading, writing, spelling, or comprehension skills that fall below expectations?
  • Reversals and omissions in reading, spelling, and speech?
  • Labored or illegible handwriting?
  • Hesitancy or outright dislike of reading?
  • Difficulties in retention of basic math facts, and in solving word problems?
  • Poor organizational skills?
  • Difficulties following or remembering oral instructions, and having difficulties staying on task?
  • Difficulties with concepts of time, direction, and place?

These are some of the characteristics of dyslexia.

There are no universally agreed upon medical or psychological criteria for the diagnosis of dyslexia. Valid and widely recognized tests can eliminate many other possible causes of language learning problems. Park Academy staff are trained and qualified to administer testing to identify dyslexia. “Language based learning disability” and “language based learning difference” also describe the condition when the term dyslexia may sound frightening or carry incorrect, preconceived stigmas.
